The Jets are 2-1 after defeating the Colts on Thursday Night Football, but they have been playing better than expected.
They have won four straight, including a victory over the Jaguars.
Their best win came last year, when they won at the Colts.
“We’ve got to make the playoffs and win out,” quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said.
“The only way you can do that is win games.”
Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 216 yards and two touchdowns against the Jaguars on Thursday.
He had no turnovers and was accurate with his passes.
“I felt like we made a lot of plays down the field,” Fitzpatrick said of the drive.
“That was one of our big drives, and we got the job done.
We had the ball for a while and it was just a matter of getting the ball out of their hands and getting them to stop trying to run us out of the game.”
The Jets won the last meeting between the teams in 2009.
It was a 45-13 victory for the Jets, who went to a playoff game in Jacksonville last year but lost that game by 20.
Fitzpatrick said he is excited about the matchup against the Colts, but it won’t be easy.
“It’s a big test, a lot like the last one,” he said.
The Jets play their first road game of the season Friday at Tennessee.
Fitzpatrick and quarterback Marcus Mariota are coming off back-to-back solid performances against the Texans.
Fitzpatrick threw a touchdown pass in the first quarter and had five other completions in the second quarter, helping the Jets to a 27-23 win.
Mariota completed 13 of 19 passes for 189 yards, and he threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to tight end Martellus Bennett to make it 27-21 with 4:06 remaining in the third quarter.
Bennett caught a 14-yard TD pass from Fitzpatrick in the fourth quarter to give the Titans a 27‑24 lead.
“Just because you’ve got a big win in front of you, doesn’t mean that doesn’t have to be good,” Mariota said.
Tennessee will have to go through the Dolphins again.
Miami (6-6) has won four of five against the Jets.
Fitzpatrick was sacked five times and threw two interceptions in the loss to Indianapolis.
“Their defense did a good job on us and it’s just one of those games,” Fitzpatrick told reporters.
The Jaguars are 1-5, but their defense was a huge factor against the Dolphins last year.
They held the Jets scoreless in the game and held them to 2.7 yards per carry.
“They just kind of put us in position,” linebacker Malik Jackson said.
Jaguars coach Gus Bradley had previously said he wanted to get back to playing more physical.
He also wants to keep the Jaguars playing on the road.
“You know, it’s a game of inches,” Bradley said.
