NFL players aren’t doing enough to protect their own jobs, and that’s the top priority for the NFL Players Association.
“We need to protect our players from their bosses,” NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith said Wednesday at a news conference.
“It’s a real challenge, because we have a whole group of players that work on the field every day, on the sidelines and in front of the cameras.
And we have to protect them.
We’ve got to do it in the best interest of our players.”
While Smith emphasized that NFL players are not being protected in any way, he said the league needs to be more transparent about how it’s doing its job and how many workers are being protected.
The NFLPA said last week that it is working on a new agreement with the league to better protect employees, but that it was not yet ready to discuss it publicly.
